Hello and welcome to my Website.
Born in Bellshill, I graduated from Glasgow Caledonian University with a 2.1 BA Honours in Politics with History and Sociology in 2006.
Elected to the Parliament on 5 May 2011, I am one of 3 Scottish Labour regional MSPs for Central Scotland.
I am a longstanding member of the Labour Party and the GMB, the General Workers Union. My father, Michael McMahon, is MSP for Uddingston and Bellshill, and I have previously worked as a Labour researcher in the Scottish Parliament, and for former Scottish Secretary Jim Murphy (now Scottish Labour Leader) at the Scotland Office.
In December 2014, I was delighted to be appointed Scottish Labour’s Shadow Minister for Youth & Women’s Employment. I am also deputy convener of the Education and Culture Committee and a member of the following cross party groups:
- Disability (Deputy Convener)
- International Development (Treasurer)
- Malawi (Deputy Convener)
- Pakistan
- Palliative Care
- Towns and Town Centres
Outside Parliament I enjoy reading and am a keen fan of sport, something I believe everyone should have equal access to.
